Summer Exhibition: Nature & LandscapeDuring the Summer Salon at the home and studio of Anneke van Santen in Katlijk, near Heerenveen, she presents material paintings of landscapes and birds that she has created over the past few years.Those who travel collect many stories... Forty years of travelling through Africa and Europe have yielded a treasure trove of natural pigments, allowing her to make her own paints. In her studio, you will find a colourful collection of containers, bags, and jars filled with earth and stones. Natural pigments Red earth from Africa, black volcanic sand from Iceland, and molar clay from Denmark: clay formed by volcanic magma, offering a rich variety of pigments. These create striking colours and give the works an intriguing texture. The result is a series of collages and paintings in which movement within nature and the landscape takes centre stage. Katlijk 500 You do not always have to look far. The local soil also provides beautiful colours. To mark the 500th anniversary of Katlijk in 2025, Anneke was commissioned to create a material painting inspired by the soil structure of Katlijk. The finished work is on display at the exhibition. Exhibition 11 July to 9 August 2026. Open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Outside these hours, visits are possible by appointment; please call +31 6 21298633.
